DETAILS

Did you know there are several species of seal which visit NJ? The Seals feed and then haul out to rest and digest. Save Coastal Wildlife and has been recruiting and training volunteers to monitor these seasonal populations, and Waterspirit has joined in. We are inviting the public to join us at Sandy Hook to hopefully see the seals in person. Our goal is to watch the seals and record data to report. While we are there, we will discuss all of the wildlife around us. We at Waterspirit protect the waters to protect all creation. We will meet at Mt. Mitchell before traveling to parking area C in Sandy Hook. So grab your camera, your binoculars, your spotting scope (or use ours) and come join us. Dress for the weather. There is no protection from the elements. All registered participants will be emailed no later than the morning of the event if we need to cancel the program due to weather. In the U.S., all marine mammals, including seals, are federally protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Please be respectful. Whether with us or on your own, please view and photograph seals from a distance of at least a 150 feet away (half a football field). Further is better! For the seals’ sake, please do not bring pets to this event. *We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please email water@waterspirit.org or call 732-923-9788
